Why this should be DD’s year, starts off vs UGA at home tonight! (semi-long)

(if you don’t care about gym team, fine move on, but many do)
Why this should be DD’s year, starts off vs UGA at home tonight!
DD is entering her 40th year and hard to believe with all her work and knowledge she has no SEC or National Champ titles- thanks to some bad luck and a lot of very close calls. BUT this should be the year all that ends! Great way to start season versus UGA that along with Bama, is “the bama of Gymnastics.” As between Bama, UGA and UF you have winners of the last 39 SEC Championships and 19 NCAA Championships in the past since 1982 when they started it in the sport (UF 3, UGA 10 and Bama 6)
For so long SEC gym was the haves and have nots (Bama beat Auburn 100+ times in a row head to head! And Vandy, OM, Miss St, Tennessee and Texas a&M have never even had teams), and DD has been close a number of times in the past 40 years and we have had some great individual champions.
As runner up to NC last year, we have great talent and most of the talent is back. Reputation (think judging) is very important and no doubt the judges know us as a contender now (pre-season #2). As most of you who follow the sport know, it is the scores over the season that matter so while you may “lose” a meet, if your score is high that is OK. Still, a win head to head versus UGA would be big. The legendary head coaches who won at Bama and UGA have retired in the past few years and we have momentum on our side. It is finally DD’s time, with only 50 or so teams even having D1 teams, an SEC title and/or NC would be awesome for someone who has coached for so long who can finally win one! Geaux girls!

Wish DD the best of luck. Since it appears neither basketball team will go far, LSU fans would do well to pay more attention to this winning and successful program.

I have 3 questions:
1. Who is preseason #1?
2. Who won the NC last year?
3. Where is the NC located?
In my mind the word Oklahoma keeps popping up but not sure if thats correct
eta: Sure I could google to refresh my memory, but I think giving this thread more attention is a good thing

I would like to start the in-game thread around 8pm. I don't want to steal secfballfan's thunder, though.

This team is loaded. I'm excited. Have to miss the meet tonight but I'll be in the PMAC a few times this year.

DD has one SEC title, back in 81 or 82.
This could well be her year but Oklahoma is still going to be tough to beat and they have routines that are constructed to better fit the rules and go clean. LSU relies on difficulty which is hard to hit time after time and from lineup spots 1-6. Oklahoma goes easier on difficulty but they are still all out of 10s and can hit for a 9.9 almost all the way through the lineup. LSU has to find this same balance and it might mean giving up some of that difficulty that has set them apart for the last few years.
The key for LSU is to keep Priessman healthy and get a 10 vault out of her plus her bars needs to be 9.9, which it usually is. A great floor routine from her would be even better but with her injury problems I don't know if it is worth her competing and training FX all season.
Macadaeg was out of 101 with an ankle stress fracture so hopefully that heals, her beam routine is 9.95 worthy no matter her spot in the lineup and we can not afford to lose that score.
Finnegan needs to step it up on bars, she is gorgeous and easily goes 9.9 but she is also the most likely to fall.
I am hoping Edney settles in because we can use her vault, for sure but also bars and floor (didn't see her on FX at 101).

Our gymnastics team legit puts more people in the PMAC then half of LSU's basketball games last year when we had Simmons lol

Good analysis. I hate how OU goes about things, even though it is the correct strategy: do an easier routine perfectly.
The big thing for LSU is that last year was supposed to be the rebuilding year. This year's team only loses Savona and Wyrick, who weren't really key cogs. The team relied heavily on underclassmen, particularly a great freshmen class... which should now see a larger role this season. This team should be better as those now sophomores take on a larger role on the team.
And remember, LSU didn't have their best meet in Ft Worth last year. They left some points on the table on the bars rotation, usually one of our best events. The high score was a 9.85, which is well below the team's standards. A better bars rotation, and they win the national title last year.

Definitely excited for this season and this team. I hope that is this is the year for DD to win her first SEC Championship. With Florida losing Bridget Sloan, the door is open, but Alabama is extremely loaded as well. Should be an entertaining season!

Good luck to the team! I've never followed gymnastics closely, but went to a few matches (is that what they're called?) when I was a student. Always enjoyed them.
I have a question, when you say
Do you mean that she has been the LSU coach for 40 years? If so, that's pretty awesome.

They're mostly LSU football fans that are into the event of it all, (Tailgating, Social, exiting the misery of their lives by drinking, etc..........)
Most wouldn't be caught dead at a gymnastics event.
To them, there are no LSU Athletic events outside of Football and to some extent, Baseball............
