re: Have you stopped watching / following a sport? If so, why?

I've pretty much stopped watching all sports aside from the Saints. Reading the MSB is more than enough for me
Some people as they get older get more interested -- others less so. I'm in the latter category.
Hard even for me to believe I was once a big baseball fan, rushing home from school to watch Harry Caray and the Cubs.
One reason for my decreased interest is the increased thuggery of sports. I try to avoid this demo in movies and music; I don't need bread and circuses so much that I will put up with them in sports.

Was a huge MLB fan until the strike in the 90's completely quit watching.
I watched the NBA during Jordan and Kobe's peaks. Too young for some of the other guys like Bird and such....and I just don't really enjoy the brand of basketball that is being played now.
I really wanted to like Kevin Durant as much as Kobe. It just never happened. Let the downvotes commence.

Actually going to the game is so much more enjoyable than watching it on TV
Yes baseball isn't a great TV sport but I love going to games especially minor league. I swear I enjoy going to Zephyrs games more than Saints games. Just less hassle.
Basketball season to me has become a dead zone. The sport in general never captivated me but I'd still follow it some. But as I get older I pay it no attention. The NBA season is like 10 months long now and the college season is incredibly worthless considering every team but LSU makes the tourney.

NASCAR, was completely obsessed with it when I was younger. Would watch every race from beginning to end. All these different types of cars they've used and all the bull shite rules and cautions have really put me off of it. I'll still watch the majority of the Daytona 500 but the other races I just check and see who won.
Also, starting this year the NFL in a sense. I've always preferred college football but I'd always watched the NFL every Sunday but this year for some reason I haven't been into it. I'd watch bits and pieces of games but that's it.

This is least prevalent in MLB. You should give baseball another chance.

Baseball and the Cubs particularly was extremely popular when I was a kid in NOLA. The Cubs on WGN was the tits. I'm 36 and I think my generation was the last to really love baseball first and foremost. Kids now seem more devoted to basketball football or soccer.
That 1994 strike was devastating to the sport and I don't think it ever truly fully recovered.

College Basketball because it sucks

I went through a phase when I was 22-23 where I severely repressed the sports I watched but then I just gave that act up because I know who I am and there isn't a point to such dishonesty.
I liked baseball quite a bit as a kid but once I quit playing, I just stopped following, minus the postseason.
I can't say there is another sport I have quit watching. I don't watch as many races as I did, but I still catch most.

was a huge nascar fan growing up, I was a gear head the whole nine yards
Watching Dale get bounced around a track, rip the whole front end of his wrangler Chevrolet off and go on to tin the race was just thrilling. Now??? my god it's horrible to watch
same with football. Love CFB, NFL is complete garbage and everyone knows why

MLB - regular season just too fricking long to give a shite about.
NBA - see above plus not the same since they have pussified the game.
NFL - would rather watch paint dry than watch most games that are on TV.

The only sports I watch are the Premier League and college football
Everything else is garbage.

Was a huge Astros fan and then they switch from watching Astros games to Rangers. After that no longer cared about mlb.

I watch the NBA the least of any sport now. I used to love watching it, but it just doesn't feel the same anymore. Just feels like the product isn't what it used to be.
I'm getting older and 95% of the players just need to get off my lawn.

I stopped watching NBA and College basketball around 1993 or so. The rules of the game wereviews not being enforced anymore. Guys routinely taking 3 or 4 steps and not called. Blatant carrying was being referred to as a sick crossover move. I was done. Haven't looked back.

I stopped watching all baseball a year or two after the Sosa/McGuire home run race. It became boring to watch and play. Haven't watched a game since.
Stopped watching the NBA after Jordan retired the second time. No real reason. Just lost interest. Still watch college basketball.
I don't watch the NFL, but I never watched it regularly. I average watching 2-3 NFL games a year now.

Baseball.
I got super into it with the McGuire/Sosa homerun chase. Then the steroid scandal hit, and I started questioning why I was watching it. Realized it's a few hours of very slow action and repetitive movements.

NFL. Penalties, commercials, and terrible QB play. I'll pass.

NBA because it's basically turned into street ball and the refs call what they want, when they want, and who they want. No travel calls. Nothing. The Ticky tack fouls and the 37 timeouts towards the end of the game where it takes 15 minutes to play 20 seconds of game has completely turned me off
No interest in that garbage.
No interest in that garbage.
