Oil change is pretty normal.
My FIL is a mechanic and he says not only are transmission flushes "a racket", they can also be dangerous to you car if not done regularly and properly. He has always recommended a drain and fill, but not a flush.

Your FIL is correct.
To the OP, change your own oil. You can buy a higher quality oil, monitor your engine's health, and spend less $$$.
Let an express drain and fill the transmission fluid. It is a messy hassle.
