It works with the hub. I synced my hub to the Echo, not my devices. The Echo still controls the devices. Non-Amazon related.

Maybe so, but hard to compete with illegal services. Fact is the device will still play music from the apps, free or paid

You can put a passcode protection to keep the order from being processed (This also applies to available banking skills). The device can still add it to a list, put it in your cart, or add something to an external list app (such as grocery list app, etc.).

you are railing against a product for which you are not even close to being the intended audience. you don't use amazon. you went through the hassle of automating your home with multiple brands and protocols and used a hub dedicated for that purpose. alexa basically short cuts all of that, simplifies it for the average person, and gives access to several other features outside of the smart home.
it sounds like if you wanted to put forth the same effort into making alexa work for you that you have already done with your other home automation devices, alexa would be great for you. however, i can't blame you for not wanting to do it again, and alexa wasn't designed for people like you make that switch. it's obviously meant for people who don't have the time/knowledge/inclination to create a smart home through a third party hub.
