Son of a bitch. I was in 1/8.

Too weird. WM's do a great job but not in the 0300 (Infantry) field. Nuh-uh.

1/8 [out loud said: ONE-EIGHT] was the battalion that got blown up in Beirut. I was there earlier.

If they do nothing more special than the male Marines, isn't that pretty worthy?

Everybody gets a ration of shite on Parris Island.

This is that Army gal that won a Silver Star.

HESTER, LEIGH ANN
Citation:
The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star Medal to Leigh Ann Hester, Sergeant, U.S. Army, for exceptionally valorous achievement during combat operations in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, on 20 March 2005, in Iraq. Sergeant Hester's heroic actions in Iraq contributed to the overwhelming success of the Multi-National Corps-Iraq mission. While serving as the Team Leader for RAVEN 42B in the 617th Military Police Company, 503d Military Police Battalion (Airborne), 18th Military Police Brigade, Sergeant Hester led her soldiers on a counterattack of anti-Iraqi Forces (AIF) who were ambushing a convoy with heavy AK-47 assault rifle fire, PRK machine gun fire, and rocket propelled grenades. Sergeant Hester maneuvered her team through the kill zone into a flanking position where she assaulted a trench line with grenades and M-203 rounds. She then cleared two trenches with her Squad Leader where she engaged and eliminated 3 AIF with her M-4 rifle. Her actions saved the lives of numerous convoy members. Sergeant Hester's bravery is in keeping with the finest traditions of military heroism and reflects distinct credit upon herself, the 503d Military Police Battalion (Airborne), the 18th Military Police Brigade, and the United States Army."

That is a look that crosses gender no problemo. The butt plate on that rifle is filthy. Senior Drill Instructor Sergeant Cambridge is not happy.

Females do a great job. And also - we can't do the mission without WM's, so get used to it. There simply are not enough qualified males.

Senators Criticize Ray Mabus for Neglecting Marine Study About Women in Combat

February 2, 2016 8:16 pm

Members of the Senate Armed Services Committee grilled Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus on Monday for neglecting a study by the Marine Corps about the integration of women into all facets of the service, including boot camp.

The Marine Corps completed a multi-million dollar study in December that found that mixed-gender units performed poorly in ground combat tasks compared to all-male units. It has been the policy of the Marine Corps to keep ground combat all-male, and to separate men and women in enlisted basic training.

Secretary Mabus criticized the Marine Corps after it released the report, and after Secretary of Defense Ash Carter declined to exempt Marines from the requirement to open all positions to women, Mabus demanded that Marine Corps boot camp cease separating men and women for training.

At Tuesday’s hearing, Marine reserve officer Sen. Dan Sullivan (R., Alaska) questioned Mabus about his handling of the report and whether he came to a conclusion before the report was completed.

Mabus admitted he had not read the full study when he overrode the Marine Corps’ request for an exemption.

“You said ‘I do not see any reason for an exemption’ the day after the study was published. Based on what?” Sullivan asked.

“The conclusions,” Mabus said.

“Did you read the study?” Sen. Sullivan asked.

“I read the study,” Mabus said.

“Did you read the study before you stated that?” Sen. Sullivan asked.

“I had read the conclusions that the Marines drew from the study prior to that, and those conclusions which were based on averages and not on individual Marines,” Mabus said.

Sen. Sullivan then asked Mabus’s rush for gender-integration of the military contradicted a report on the effect of gender-integration in boot camps commissioned by the Department of Defense and completed in December 1997, known as the Kassebaum-Baker Report.

“I think that’s a completely irrelevant point, Senator,” Mabus said.

“You know, Secretary Mabus, this would have been a lot easier if you had not called in the press immediately and debunked what many of us view as a legitimate study without even reading it, and I don’t believe that you read a thousand page document in one day. I’m sorry, but I don’t believe it,” Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz.) said later in the hearing."

Let's set a baseline. You are an idiot.

Pentagon: 7 in 10 Youths Would Fail to Qualify for Military Service

Nolan Feeney @NolanFeeney June 29, 2014

"The quality of people willing to serve has been declining rapidly," the U.S. Army Recruiting Command's commanding general says

Approximately 71% of the 34 million 17-to-24-year-olds in the U.S. would not qualify for military service because of reasons related to health, physical appearance and educational background, according to the Pentagon.

The ineligible typically includes those who are obese, those who lack a high school diploma or a GED, convicted felons, those taking prescription drugs for ADHD and those with certain tattoos and ear gauges, the Wall Street Journal reports, though some requirements can be waived.

Only 1% of young people are both “eligible and inclined to have conversation with” the military about possible service, according to the Defense Department.

“The quality of people willing to serve has been declining rapidly,” Major General Allen Batschelet, the U.S. Army Recruiting Command’s commanding general, told the WSJ."

The Marine Corps actually tried that back in the day. They took many recruits with bad police records thinking that kind of aggression could be channeled into useful action. What happened was those guys got through Parris Island or San Diego due to the very close supervision recruits get. When they got out to the Fleet, they were constant discipline problems who had to be separated from the service. In 1975 The Marine Corps instituted the Expeditious Discharge Program to get them out with general discharges – so they still got some benefits. But you didn’t have to wait for them to do something court martial worthy to get them a Bad Conduct or Dishonorable Discharge.

Being an Infantry Marine myself and really in a different era, I had limited exposure to WM’s. At the Marine Corps drink fest on the 2015 birthday I talked to a couple of young WMs. I told them that back in the day seeing a WM was as rare as seeing a unicorn. They got a big kick out of that. Later on we had some in our reserve unit. They were all pretty good, none of them were a problem or had any issues I remember.

What about tattoos and ADHD?

And if we're going to bar potential recruits because they're demographic may cause disciplinary problems down the road then we should definitely be barring women from serving.

Tattoos. General Amos disliked tattoos so much he had the whole Marine Corps 'sleeves down' world wide for about two years before he relented.

But they let General Mattis in. This is from Duffel Blog, if you don't get it.

ADHD? How many people will that add?
