I was hoping he was Lex's son and the middle reveal surprise of the movie was the real lex coming home, bitch slapping Eisenberg, and then taking control of the company back.

I think DC/Warner Brothers still has a glimmer of hope that Bryan Cranston will go ahead and play Lex Luthor. Then that scenario will come true.
