All he did was draw attention to himself and spout shitty opinions.

I associate the word courageous with guys like Steve Gleason. Or someone like Warrick Dunn who has done far more to actually help the community he advocates for on a daily basis.

I can literally argue all day why Kaepernick isn't even remotely close to what I'd call courageous.

The usage of the word courageous is a lot like the usage of the word reward to me. It doesn't necessarily have positive connotations even though it's assumed to, it just basically means you're not to be deterred.

Well this was an award for a 49er, voted on by 49ers, so nothing you say here matters. Why don't you name the 49er player who you think should have gotten the award?

Yep, tons of negative attention. If you don't think it takes courage(again, whether you agree with his stance or not is irrelevant) to do that knowing the backlash he'd get, then you're clearly too biased to really have a rational discussion on this specific subject.
