Benefit reform for military is desperately needed to maintain current troop levels. A massive pension, health care for life, affirmative action on steroids for obtaining a federal job. Post 9/11 GI bill pays for all of your tuition even if you sat in DC for four years and got out.
But you can't do enough for veterans....ask them, they'll tell you!!!
I hope...hell I will even pray...that the GOP takes up this mantle LOL....

This is true for some veterans.

Good. Pensions need to be cut. You shouldn't be able to draw a military pension until you're at least 55 and probably more like 60. No more retiring at 38 and getting a pension for more than twice as long as you were in the military.

A former infantry officer and Iraq War vet
You are a piece of shite. How about you do some digging into the real reason the defense budget is a black hole, fricking civilians and contractors. frick you for advocating to take away from veterans who earned what was in their contract. Only 17% of those who serve actually retire with 20 years. idgaf what you did in the service. yes, I'm mad. People like you have no idea what you're talking about and will spout some bs just because of some anecdotal shite you've experienced. Do some research and quit going after the ones who actually did something for America as opposed to the slop civilians who work unneccessary strange titled jobs or take away jobs from green suitors but cost way more.

Ill be impressed if they do this and they will win back some credibility with me. But they wont.

There are a lot of reasons the military is black hole of money, and you named one. Pensions and healthcare are another. Do you not think it's a problem that personnel costs have risen more than 40% higher than inflation since 2001?
I promise you I am as well- or better-versed in military budgets as anyone on this board, so bring it and quit the ad hominem.

Yeah, I have some idea.
Do you?

I'm sure Ryan is salivating at the chance to earn back credibility with you.

Civilian benefit reform has already occurred fool. New Fed civilians are on smaller annuities, pay more into their retirement, and have seen smaller COA increases relative to inflation and military increases. At the very least new mil needs to follow suit.

no shite, mr iraq war vet? you know when you were in iraq, we were also in afghanistan? Green suitor costs are and will continue to decline as the wars end, yet civilians jobs and costs increase. But let's take away from the vets who did what was in their contract. Personnel costs rising is not the fault of the veteran that served their 20 years throughout the longest war period in history.

Someone's mad that something i've been pushing on here actually ended up in a republican plan, huh?

Are you planning to educate me about disability compensation, or did you decide against it?
Posted on 12/27/16 at 9:41 am to Tigerdev
32% during a time of the longest war ever.

Decided against it, I think I misjudged your intentions. Unless you are saying disability compensation is out of control?

That's because of force reduction cuts, not actual, sustainable cuts in benefits. Personnel costs as a percentage of the budget continue to rise.

Link? There are good arguments for civilians for long-term budget sustainability - you don't have to pay contractors pensions and healthcare, for starters. You're arguing around yourself here.

Ok, and so what? How many of those people actually saw combat? How many left their FOBs with salsa nights on Thursdays? Maybe 10%? Less than that? We're not talking World War II here or even Vietnam.
