If you can spare an extra $5 or so, there are many many many 3.5" mm out jack BT dongles that work incredibly well at distance available on Amazon.
It's an inelegant solution but it would allow for the wireless connection if the receiver or source wasn't BT capable.

I've played with both briefly. My initial impression is that google home is a much more powerful search engine. It uses google so that's not shocking where as Alexa uses Bing. For home automation Alexa is light years ahead at the moment. I'm sure google will catch up though. I have dots in several rooms and they control my entire house. If they ever sync them I will have one in every room.
