History lesson: Ballistic missile defense was a Reagan (remember him?) initiative. Russia viewed this purely defensive measure as a provocation, and apparently still does. Moreover, the poliboard consensus has apparently come around to the Russian viewpoint. I wish Kubrick was still around. There's a hell of a movie to be made about these times.

The 1980's called and they want their foreign policy back*

Can you show me a post, even from one of the crazy Trumpkin fringe (minus GoldenNuggest), that agrees defensive missile shields are bad policy?
I just wanted to call out your bullshite title for the bullshite it is. I dont' disagree with us placing defensive missile shields. Or the Russian response. Both are logical, IMO.
You just sound bitter with your troll title.

You're the one who needs the history lesson. Missile defense IS a provocation. The Russians were correct and we knew it. It creates a scenario for American first strike that circumvents MAD retaliation.
I posited during the 80s that the best solution would be for both nations to have Missile Defense programs that would not only make 1st strike unappealing but also prevent an exchange caused by accidental launch.
The Russian PALs system was not nearly as good as ours so accidental launch by the Russians was/is a real fear.
