We want to get away from the predictability of the toss-dive followed by the bomb on third and long. Just because one isn't calling all of the plays doesn't discount his offensive creativity.

100% agree.

I'd rather have him analyzing the game and feeding the adjustments to those calling the plays. He's a coordinator - very different than a command and controller.

Agree, but here's the deal...who's calling the plays? O? I mean he's not on offensive guy and his big sell was that he lets his coaches coach. Since he is HC i think we have to get an OC that can do it all. I don't think Helfrich sucks, but i think he needs an offensive minded HC to lean on.

So without Helfrich by his side, Chip Kelly is a shitty coach.

I'm not sure if this was meant to be taken seriously or not, but in case it was i don't think it's a fair assessment of Chip at all. Some coaches just aren't nfl coaches...see Saban.

What do believe Orgeron would prefer? Someone that makes him look better or that gives him less than optimal options facing a defense like Alabama? I'd say the former.

I don't understand this line of thinking. Of course orgeron wants someone that makes him look good. To get that guy he will have to be able to do it all on offense. Similar to an aranda style but on offense.

Im not opposed to helfrich. Im just saying i have certain reservations with him regarding his play calling ability since it seems to be somewhat limited in scope. I don't dispute his schemes/planning is great though.

If Helfrich could design the best offensive scheme for the team and teach it during practices and work with the folks on the sidelines during game time when not on the field and Ensminger was calling the plays from the booth, would that work?

I sure like Ensminger calling plays from the booth with a Helfrich play book than I do with a Cam Cameron play book.

I know we don't want to run at the pace that Oregon did in years past. Don't you believe plays were put together in sets in that scheme? How can a coach in the booth or on the field be calling fresh plays each down when they are snapping the ball within 7 to 10 seconds?

I just think this "who calls the plays" may be one component of the offense that can be delegated at certain times of a game. Sure, there are going to be critical times when the Head Coach pulls rank and makes a decision to go for it a certain way and likely others where the OC does the same.

With the same talent across the board, the talent devised scheme, the teaching and the ability to see things the majority of other coaches don't catch well enough to teach and then to effectively adjust play is the most important component to winning on offense.
