The other day I was getting on to the bus wearing my favorite jimmy dean pork breakfast sausage hat when three Muslim supporters with machetes pulled my hat off and threw it to the ground yelling "this is sharia America now and haram clothing is not allowed!" They then tried to force me to wear a burka and renounce my Christianity. I'm literally shaking right now, this is Mohammed's America.
OMG this is awful!
You should contact the Southern Poverty Law Center immediately!

So my question to you, did your parents move here to have more religious freedom in America with the Muslim culture left in tact or did they move here for religious freedom yet willing to adopt American culture as a byproduct of that freedom? Thanks.
We had religious freedom in Pakistan. Moving to America had nothing to do with religion. My parents wanted us to have better educational opportunities in the US.
They wanted to retain a lot of the culture (ex. language, certain customs, religion, etc.), but were willing and did adapt to American way of life. They accepted American pop culture, learned english, etc.
I know you want immigrants to accept American culture, and thats obviously reasonable. It is also reasonable for immigrants to want to retain some of their own culture.
Now, finding the right balance between retaining culture and assimilating is harder than most people understand. If you haven't gone through it, you won't know.
It was embarrassing as a child seeing my mom dress in traditional clothes in public bc she didn't look like other americans. But in hindsight, I regret feeling that embarrassment because she ended up sacrificing some of her culture to fit in. And I am sure that was so hard for her to do. If she dressed like that in public today, I'd be proud to see her feel comfortable enough to show that.
I don't know if I answered your question. I prob went off on a tangent

So...are we to ignore the fact that a huge majority of muslim immigrants are on some type of welfare?
Facts to back that up? Are Muslim immigrants worse off than other immigrants financially? Do you have any evidence of this or are you just talking out of your arse?

You did good except for one part -

I moved from La. to Arkansas 33 years ago so yeah, I've gone through it.

Those stats are heavily weighted to those muslims who have been here a longer time - the ones who emigrated from the shothole ofnthe ME because they were "progressive" and ok with women being educated and working.
By and large the ones coming now are not. That's the problem with broadly applying statistics.

U.S. Muslims have the second-highest level of education among major religious groups
Many terrorists, particularly leaders, organizers, hijackers and planners are highly educated from wealthy or middle class families, with advanced degrees, with a significant portion educated in the West.
The whole, "The Madrassas prey on the poor and uneducated families" bullshite is a myth.
A little dated, but that right wing, fake news rag The New York fricking Times even knows this.

Has this really been the argument though?
From what I've seen, people are more concerned about the uncivilized refugees not assimilating.
After seeing what happened (and is happening) in Europe combined with the fact that the FBI director straight up told everyone we didn't have a proper vetting process, those concerns are warranted.

Wrong. It's absolutely true they do this. You had a decent point in saying that extremism isn't a problem unique to the poors, but then you blew it by calling one of the primary recruitment strategies a myth.

What I see are frequent calls for genocide and internment. So maybe we are looking at different boards.
The issue SHOULD be about government programs but it isn't.

Based on what I've read, I feel like there is a prevailing thought on this board that Muslims haven't integrated well into American society and I just think there is no basis to that. Fear of American Muslims is completely unwarranted.
I am not assigning blame to anyone. I am trying to spread information.
Question: do "American Muslims" speak out vociferously against Muslim Extremism? Cuz I don't see it. I see one guy that shows up on Fox now and then. And I see one woman in the news who fled Muslim extremism and now disavows her former religion only to be verbally attacked by "American Muslims" and American liberals! Liberals who refuse her right to give speeches at American universities.
I don't care whether one worships coke bottles, green frogs, beings from outer-space, the marijuana plant, or Pez dispensers, but when they come to the USA and do not respect the civil liberties guaranteed by our constitution, when they come to the USA and wish to continue their ways of oppression of basic human rights, oppression of women (which for some inane reason is defended by so-called liberals), and try to set up Sharia law in pockets of this country, as they have done in European countries, THEN, I have a problem.
I am not sure who is worse at assimilating into western civilization Muslims, or liberals.

Fair enough - they ALSO do this. But, the implication in the OP is that education is somehow a panacea against radicalism. It isn't. If anything terrorist organizations are over-educated (and, again, heavily in the West) at the middle manager and up level.
Yeah, they get a lot of rank and file cannon fodder through the poor families. I concede that. For purposes of this thread, though, that's irrelevant.

It's not irrelevant. Pointing out that some of muslim radicals are educated doesn't equate to educated American Muslims being radicals.

Many terrorist leaders are educated in the West. The entire OP is irrelevant.
(ETA: Dig into the opinion surveys of Muslims living in the West, about the rates they agree that infidels can be killed, Sharia should supercede secular law, etc., and then get back to me.)

Lessee, didn't a Muslim student at OSU recently bring a knife to a gun fight?
