I'm not sure what your point is to mention that but the reason U.S. Steel was removed from the S&P 500 index was because its market cap had dropped to the point where it was considered a mid-cap company. So, it was moved to the S&P Mid-Cap 400 index where it still is.

So I should have used a better representation, but I think the switch from large to mid cap encapsulates this in a simple categorization.
