If I'm not mistaken he has to pay for his own food.

I saw a show on the History Channel once where they talked about this. Apparently the president pays for his own toothpaste, razors, deodorant, etc. I would think the government pays for state dinners with other dignitaries, don't know about just the average meal though.

I don't believe that is true, especially seeing as how the president rarely dines alone.
