New Orleans didn't surprise me, but damn! The energy sector needs to open up to get Louisiana on the right track. Trump has his work cut out for him.

The Katrina recovery has plateaued out and the piss poor current leadership has no vision/idea how to get things going again. The white collar job outlook in NOLA is depressing.

Context is important.
For instance, NOLA and Baton Rouge largely avoided the worst of the recent recession...at least until the oil prices fell.
On the other side of the ledger, Miami was in the tank. So they can go nowhere but up as real estate prices have stabilized.

Energy sector floundering is causing the two largest cities in Louisiana to stagnate....but both seem to have a robust housing market. Who is buying those houses?
Lack of an appropriate amount of white collar jobs in New Orleans, considering its size, has been a problem for well over a decade. It's not much better in Baton Rouge especially lately. They struggle to compete with Houston and Dallas for big business.
I don't know how that address that issue long term....but hopefully things change soon.

Yarp. I never thought that I would leave the area as being close to family is important to me, plus I'm not great at meeting new frands. But another ~$25k/yr in purchasing power is tough to pass up. Not actively looking for a new job, but keeping an eye out on positions in NC, SC, Texas, Nashville, and Florida. Places that just have their shite together WAY more than LA.
