No broken coonass French in LA? No thanks. I'd prefer not to slowly strip away the foundations of culture throughout the country.
This. The WASPs have been trying to eradicate Cajun culture for a long time. I would have thought an LSU board of all places would be firmly against such a ridiculous and pointless measure.

Bilingual =/= French Immersion or secondary language
Bilingual essentially makes it OK to call two separate languages the primary language.

They pretty much succeeded in the 1920s and 30s. Very few people in Louisiana are fluent in Cajun French. Only a few phrases survive. There's not enough living cajun speakers to teach a new generation. The new generation which is learning "cajun french" in school is not really learning the same language their great grandfathers spoke. That language is dead. "Cajun French" tought today is just Parisian French with a handful of Cajun colloquialisms thrown in. It would be like teaching kids to speak the Queen's English with the addition of ya'll and calling it "Southern American English".

Government business, forms, and anything to do with the public sector including schools, yes. If a private business wants to conduct here in Cantonese so be it.
That being said, I wonder how students are graduating from high school and are not able to speak English. My son is a junior (he is bilingual) and tells me other students cannot speak English yet they graduate.... I had a hard time in English class and had to take English II two times so I could graduate. But, this could be a whole 'nother can of worms.

IT isn't the official language. We don't have an official language, a simple Google search would have shown you that.
As far as the OP, all official government documents should be in English, and at least in my experience they are required to be. If memory serves my right, we even require official documents in our territories to be translated into English even if it isn't the language of the territory. Banning ads in other languages would be dumb, one of the coolest things of a city like New York is to see all the different languages and cultures merged into one.

Thanks for the vocab lesson, I guess? Although I'm not sure what it has to do with what I posted.
We aren't England. We aren't an English colony. In fact, many people in Louisiana are descendants of those who fought against English cultural dominance. We do use English as a common language, and I believe that's good enough. I highly doubt your life is affected in any way by not having an official language within the United States.

That says more about you than it does our lack of an official language.
But that's none of my business.

Not really on topic, but I sure do appreciate the fact that most every other country in the world gives us English subtitles on all their stuff.

Yea, it says that I didn't give up and I knew what I needed to do in order to graduate high school, graduate college, and own a successful business. In other words, just because it was hard, doesn't mean it can't be done given more effort.

If you want to waste time go ahead.

Absolutely, and while we're at it, throw out that damn metric system bullshite. Too hard to understand. After that, let's start punishing other countries who won't let us sell our stuff there.

Metric is so much easier than our system. You're a moron if you don't understand powers of 10.
We lose $ every year because calculations are confused between the two systems. A space shuttle was destroyed because of it.
Jimmy Carter did have one good idea at least. We need to change to metric.

As the primary language? Yes.
I'll go a step beyond by saying that someone should not be allowed to even start the Naturalization process until they can read and write in English with enough ability to carry on an average conversation.
As the only language taught in schools? No.
