But comparing Ohio State to Penn State.....the conference title means that Penn State should be ahead of Ohio State. Ditto if Wisconsin wins the Big Ten. The season is 12 or 13 games long. You're basing your assertion on 9. Doesn't work. Ohio State has a better record and tougher schedule than both division winners in the B1G. Thus, they are ranked ahead.
No, my assertion is based on the fact that Ohio State has voluntarily made a choice to join the Big Ten, and as such they have agreed to abide by the rules of the league, including how the league champion is determined.
As such, OSU agrees that if that, since they are not in the championship game, the winner of the game is their superior.
That doesn't mean they can't claim to be better than Washington, Oklahoma or Clemson. But it would show a tremendous lack of integrity for the school to accept a bid over the champion of their league.

quote:Irrelevant. There are 114 teams who aren't in the B1G. None of them won the B1G either. Requiring Ohio State to do something that 114 teams aren't required to do makes no sense.

quote:There are no B1G bylaws that confirm this. The winner of the B1GCG is "Big Ten football champion"; whether that makes them superior to Ohio State is a matter of opinion that cannot be supported by comprehensive evidence.

"Better record and tougher schedule" trumps everything and has done so ever since the BCS was embryonic. Using a conference championship and head to head is fine if the teams have similar resumés, but Ohio State's is clearly the best among the 14 B1G teams over the course of this entire season.
You just don't have much of a point.
