quote:
so, having a Cajun accent makes one a goofy arse?
As an anecdote, my wife and I were watching some stupid crap on Food Network Thanksgiving afternoon and there was some old lady from Abbeville on there.
They fricking subtitled her.
She was speaking English, but her accent was so foreign to most Americans that the network ran words underneath her so the vast majority of Americans could understand what the frick she was saying.
Regardless of whether or not you assume someone from the deep south is an idiot because of their regional accent, the fact that a national network felt the necessity to subtitle an American without a speech impediment so that people could understand her KIND OF points to an issue of perception, does it not?
Like someone said earlier, it really is ok to have someone represent our program that speaks clearly and intelligently and who others admire, respect and want.
