It's been leaked that Alleva didn't even consider searching until we lost to Florida in embarrassing fashion with a potential Sugar Bowl birth on the line.
Basically had Ed beaten everyone but Bama, they wouldn't have even picked up the phone and called Herman or Fisher. It was a sham. Alleva didn't act in good faith for the fans and supporters of LSU. Only the grease ball politicians who wanted "one of theirs" in the spot so they could buy their way back into the party.
You think the politically connected of Louisiana wanted Fisher, who like Saban would have probably kept the good ole boys away? Or Herman, who is perceived as an outsider?
Saban was the exception not the rule because Mark Emmert said, essentially, "screw this! Pay Saban what he wants to get him here." Saban came in and flushed the good ole boys out ... and wouldn't you know, it completely changed the culture of our program. The penny pinching mediocrity of 1989-99 was gone and within two years we won the SEC and soon after the NC.
Now we are back where we were and it's only a matter of time before we are back to the pre-Saban days completely. Orgeron might coach his arse off but the political meddling will spoil the program eventually.
Dark times ahead.
