There are tons of great coaches who imploded in their first gig. Belichik and Carroll come to mind.

Bottom line is not many coaches were going to win with that roster. Aside from Willis, they had absolutely zero talent. He landed top recruiting classes while he was there which laid the foundation for Nutt's early success. I think he takes too much blame for the time he was there and gets too little credit for the foundation he built revealed after he was fired. He also admitted to doing a ton of growing in those years. He tried to recreate USC in Oxford with players like Michael Spurlock at QB. The approach was completely different when he took SC over in 2013 and it showed.

Yes he was not a grown up as head Coach at ole miss

The story took a life of its own, but the confirmed version is that O summoned his team late one evening in the winter, removed his shirt, and told "any motherfricking one of you that thinks he can" to fight him. To the chagrin of countless plaintiffs' attorneys, no one did.

Nor a grown up with Lane at Tennessee

The Vols hosted "Junior Day" last weekend, as more than 100 top prospects visited the Tennessee campus unofficially. What they got, according to several of those players, was a virtuoso, bare-chested performance by several of the Tennessee coaches after they split from their parents.
