Beckwith in perspective

Beckwith has been a very important part of LSU's defense, and I hope his recent injury wasn't too bad.
How does he compare to other great LSU LB's of the past?
Bradie James, Michael Brooks, Eric Hill, etc

Beckwith's size & speed is something else. He's as good as any of those you mentioned.

He's slightly below Minter in my rankings. Very good middle linebacker.

Hope his injury isn't serious. Best I've seen in a long time.

Little before my time. Of our more recent dominant linebackers I think I would have him just a tad above Kevin Minter, and then Sheppard at 3. (In speaking of middle/inside backers and not OLB like Kwon or Debo)

Brooks and Hill were OLB.s and James a 4-3 MLB. I would rank him slightly behind Brooks in overall talent and about even with Hill and a little ahead of Bradie James

Not as good as Bradie. Bradie was far more refined bc he played lb longer. Beckwith is a great run stopper, especially straight on, but he can't yet read the offense with the best nor can he direct everyone on the defense. He also got washed out a lot in the first few games. His ceiling is as high as any lb to come through LSU, but he'll have to work hard for years to reach his full potential.

Duke Riley's emergence has helped him this year, but he is close to James, Hill and Brooks - and those guys were natural linebackers - Beckwith is a converted DE - making his achievements a little more impressive.
I think he's going to do well in the NFL - his size, speed and tackling appear NFL-ready.

Unless he gets better at play recognition he will not have the success he has had in cfb. Kb gets by a lot on physical talent. In the nfl he will be playing with people that are all physically talented. I believe he can get better though. You can get better at play recognition with practice and film study.

He will be an all pro in 3 years. He is on the level of Brooks for the times. Speed is better than Brooks. Hill was awesome but this dude is better.
And Braddie James and Minter played with FAR SUPERIOR taken than he has so you cannot compare them. James wasn't that fast and big really and it eventually caught up with him.
Beck has learned to defend the pass this season. Give him a good NFL LB coach and he will be like Alexander and Deion. All rookie team caliber.

Beckwith was a impactful as the most recent crop of great LSU MLBs (Shepard and Minter come to mind) However, he was arguably more important that both of those guys to their respective teams. There was a noticeable difference when Beckwith finally took over for Welter in 2014. The defense went from looking like the one of the worst in LSU history to one of the top SEC defenses by the end of the year. You also noticed immediately when he was off the field. The 2014 Alabama game comes to mind, and obviously Sat. vs. Florida.
I'll miss Beckwith. Like Minter, he was a guy that just did his job and did it well. There wasn't a ton of flash. There wasn't some ridiculous celebration after EVERY tackle. He just went out there and controlled the middle of the field night after night. You could even argue that his great play in the middle allowed both Kwon Alexander and Deion Jones to have great seasons playing next to him.
He'll be tough to replace. Fournette is great, but I don't think it's outlandish to say Beckwith was LSU's most important player this year.

He was above average but most of the yardage
given up this year by the LSU defense was right
up the middle. However, the interior defensive
linemen this year have been below average. Beckwith
would have been really good playing behind the likes of Brockers, Logan, Lavalais, etc.

As good as Beckwith has been, he's never approached Minter's 2012 season. 130 total tackles, 1 interception, 15 TFLs, 4 sacks, 5 pass breakups, 6 defensed, 1 forced fumble.
Minter was unreal in that season, and as good as Beckwith has been in his career, he hasn't had a season that approaches that kind of production.
Go back and watch LSU play Florida in 2012. The game was lost on the series that Minter left the field. Keep in mind he had 20 tackles in that game.
