We can't have open borders and let in everyone because we have a welfare state, but we should absolutely be snatching up the best and brightest from around the world. We need innovators in this country, no matter where they come from. That's the only way to remain the world's economic leader into the long term.

The counter-argument is that there aren't any Americans qualified for these positions (I am talking tech jobs that require PhD's in computer science, math, engineering, etc.).
