It shouldn't take too awful long - Assuming that you have what you want at the polls - which is an educated voter who goes in knowing all of what he/she is actually voting on, other than the Presidential election.

It takes longer than 1 minute to read the instructions on the NY ballot, and it's important to read them because certain mistakes can invalidate your vote. For instance, when voting for judges, it will say how many judges you can select for that district. If you vote for too many, none of your votes count (just for the judge voting).

Crossing out a mistake invalidates the entire ballot, so if you vote for too many judges and then cross one out, your whole ballot is trashed. If you didn't read that instruction, tough luck.
