The Main Difference Between LSU vs Alabama Football Program
Posted on 11/4/16 at 8:34 pm

Obviously, there has been a lot of build up for tomorrow's LSU vs. Alabama showdown.
With this said, I just can't get over how arrogant Alabama fans are. Maybe they have always been this way. IMHO...the Main difference between the LSU Football Program and the Alabama Football Program is...Nick Saban!
Does anyone else agree that if Nick Saban would have stayed at LSU instead of taking the job in Miami that LSU would be today's Football Dynasty?

Maybe. But I think going to the NFL showed Saban he needed to change some things

True. Maybe that's exactly why he brought in Kiffin. Talent wise, I think LSU matches up with Alabama or not very far behind.

Saban was always going to the NFL no matter what. If he had gone to Alabama in 2000, he would have left them for the NFL at some point. It had nothing to do with LSU. It was an itch that had to be scratched.

LSU went 34-6 under Miles in 05-07. What do you think Saban would have done? This isn't something new to LSU fans.

Not discounting anything Miles has done. I think he has been a great Ambassador, a great recruiter, but an average at best coach. However, I think Les Miles benefitted from having elite talent bail him out every year while running the same predictable plays.
I would like to think Nick Saban wouldn't have been as predictable and also we would have locked the entire State of LA talent down while bringing all the 5-Star type players to LSU vs going to Alabama...just my two cents!

The main difference is recruiting. If LSU had 6 #1 recruiting classes they would be Alabama regardless if Saban is there or not. Saban is not Saban without talent advantage
period. And no having talent in your team doesn't count too much if the other team has more talents specially on OL and DL.

Sorry if it wasn't clear, but I agree with you. If Miles went 34-6 those years, it is very likely Saban would have won 2 national championships in that stretch (equivalent to his 2011 and 2012 at Alabama). At that point, yes the dynasty would have been in full gear. This is why LSU fans hate Alabama a little bit more. Hard luck we just got the GOAT before he had scratched his NFL itch.

I don't think Saban would've handled 2005 as well as Les did. Saban is too much of a control freak and he would've had a melt down dealing with all that. With that being said, we go undefeated in 06&07 under Saban

I agree! Even though, one poster mentioned that Alabama coveted 6 - #1 recruiting classes and they have superior talent...one has to think that Nick Saban being a household name is the reason for those #1 recruiting classes and you have to be able to develop the talent as well.
What gets me is LSU and Louisiana as a state puts more NFL talent than any other University/State, but yet we seem to lack Championships.

One thing that I can say about Miles/Coach O is that they have integrity. It's a very difficult decision to dismiss players such as: Tyrann Mathieu and Ryan Perriloux, even when it could make or break the season.
Most recently Coach O suspended: Campbell and Ferguson. On the other hand, you have someone like Cam Robinson who did far more, but Nick Saban never suspended him. He rather win at all costs than to do the right thing.

Well here is the bottom line: if anyone not named nick Sabah took the job at BAMA, then LSU probably has at least 2 maybe 3 more titles to its name.
Miles for all his Xs and Os problems didn't have a problem on the recruiting trail. Additionally, although we lost to teams not named Bama, you cannot discount the wear and tear or moral strain of playing Alabama with the talent they have.
We very well could have ran the table last year had Bama in its current form not existed.
It's EXTREMELY bad luck

LSU in 03 and 04 was just starting to become a recruiting juggernaut under Saban, and those classes never were able to mature under his watch. No doubt that would have continued as him and the program built even more cache.
The difference between LSU and Alabama is they expect and demand to be elite, and it seems most LSU fans just hope for it. Inherently, the ability to win is equal given the right person in charge. This will get me downvoted to oblivion, but the mentality difference can be seen with how a contingency of our fanbase is clamoring for a once failed head coach to become the full time coach.

I'm afraid this is accurate.

Not downvoting you, but trying to have you look at Coach O from a different perspective. He did fail as Ole Miss HeadCoach, but I tend to believe he did not possess the same level of talent as he has now at LSU.
Plus, afterwards...he did lead USC to a 6-2 record as an Interim Head Coach. I think LSU could possibly be a great fit for Coach O!

Not sure about that. UF was just a better team than we were in 2006. All of those injuries on D and Flynn's injury in 2007 and I don't see a scenario where we don't drop at least one game. I know the Miles haters are in full force since he left and would like to rewrite history. But, that does not make it reality.
It wasn't just the NFL. That was a big part of it. When Emmert left LSU that hastened the departure. Many people don't even know that behind the scenes he was looking into NFL jobs as early as 2001 when the BOS started balking at financial commitments to updating facilities (which was in fact pushed through eventually). When Nicky did not get his way he was always looking. And he had his infamous ego war with Skip Bertman.
The desire to coach and build a dynasty in NFL was true. But there were other mitigating factors why he is somewhere else. And what many Saban followers can't seem to accept is the guy was just a fish out of the water as far as La. His demeanor and demanding style came off as abrasive along with his rude treatment of athletic department employees who he did not have to answer to. His comments after his departure and since he came back to CFB (remember ditch digger and coona** comments in 2007) certainly reflects his look down upon attitude toward the common people in La. and the local culture.
The guy is arguably the best coach in CFB history, certainly top 3 to 5. But he has an odd personality disorder that comes offs to more than a few as if he is a jerk and contemptible. Did not mix well with folks in the administration not named Emmert. Honestly, from the accounts provided by folks who interacted with him and had both pro and con results it has more to do with that than if he was some evil calculating monster some like to think he is. A shame ultimately the timing was bad and when he had enough of NFL and wanted back in LSU's job was filled. Miles was winning at a good pace. No AD in their right mind would run off Miles to hire a coach who left a program literally on the tarmac.

True. I actually was wrong about the talent at Ole Miss. I did some research and found he did have talent to win at Ole Miss, but failed. Coach O even admitted that he blew his chance and had to re-evaluate himself.
Later, he would go on to win as interim Head Coach at USC with a 6-2 record. I'm sure he has learned his lesson and should possibly be given a chance to possibly be our next head coach depending on how we finish the season. Plus, the coaching staff around him makes all the difference as well...that is if he keeps Dave Aranda & Pete Jenkins!
