I've asked this 1000 times and never got an answer.
Please name me ONE HC that failed so miserably at one job, and then won an NC at his next job. Just ONE.
It's a fact that coaches improve throughout their career. Carroll, Belechik, even Saban can be included to some degree.
But those guys were all average at their first stint at being a HC, they didnt suck. Both Carroll and Belechik made the playoffs at least one year at the beginning. They showed the ability to win, even if it wasnt consistent.
O completely bombed. Like, there was very little good that could be taken from his time at Ole Miss. People talk about how great of a recruiter he is/was, but here are his classes rank compared to Nutt and Freeze...
Orgeron -
2005 - 30
2006 - 17
2007 - 28
Nutt -
2008 - 29
2009 - 18
2010 - 19
2011 - 20
Freeze -
2013 - 7
2014 - 19
2015 - 21
2016 - 8
I would say Nutt and Freeze had better overall recruiting results than O did.
So now what are we left with?
