Battlemage / Spellsword is fun.
I suggest picking one of either conjuring / destruction to pair with resto and a little alteration in the early levels.
Summon a tank or blast before they get to you. Tough to do both until much higher levels and have the perks to back it up.

I'm being conjuring a flame familiar. I need to tinker into smithing and get some gear with + magica and + restore magical faster. I mainly spawn familiar, shoot flames and when it gets close swing and back away.
