Personally, I think we'd be in a lot better place if everyone was required to serve for three years or so. Everyone bitches about youth now days, it could only help.

I think service should be voluntary, but only those who serve would be able to vote. I like the Starship Troopers model.

As I said earlier,
1. Government does not possess, I believe, the moral right to require forced labor out of anyone.
2. A conscripted force, whether for civil or military purposes, is going to be by its very nature less efficient than a volunteer or incentivized force.
3. We're already broke as frick, taking on millions of public employees each year isn't going to help.
