I've been focusing more on pacing. Been running for about a year and a half now. I have no real desire to break the 10 mile/min mark - I'm built for comfort, not for speed.

I agree with what everyone has said about taking the beginning slow and not letting the adrenaline of the race kick in; that's always the biggest hurdle for me.

Band aid your nipples...doesn't matter if you've never had issues before. Band aid both of them. Wear some cheap throwaway layers of clothes you can ditch just before the race starts or after it's started. 50 degrees is perfect racing weather for shorts and a singlet or short sleeve shirt, don't overdress but you'll want to be warm waiting for the race to start
