Some real gems here:

Why should I give you any money? I don't even have cable TV!"
I replied, "Am I supposed to buy you a brand new HDTV too, for you to watch it on?" - Jenna Boca Raton, Fl

What's your favorite?

I like to think a Negan response is appropriate in these situations. You have to shut that shite down, no excuses.

ETA: I'm not saying you need to beat them to death, but a precedent needs to be set.

One mentioned how they weren't paying because the landlord looked "like he was doing fine". Makes my blood boil that some people feel so entitled. Go live in a ditch

I don't know how you landlords deal with shite like this. I've been a renter for two years now and Ive felt bad the very few times I paid the rent on the 2nd of the month .

Most of those seem fake.

"Most of those seem fake."

As a long-term landlord, they seem very plausible to me!

most of the time it's the sympathy grab and always around Christmas:
"my ex hasn't paid child support"
"my child has been in the hospital with ____"

"I forgot to mail my check" as he holds up a stack of signed pre-dated checks in envelopes addressed already with stamps.

Dudes a mess and it's sad bc he makes more than I do at the day job.

My favorites:

"You are too wrapped up in the whole concept of 'money'. It really isn't worth the paper that it's printed on. Did you know the Federal Reserve is all a scam and is really backed by nothing?"
The rent is due in 'money'. The bank only accepts 'money' as payment or they foreclose. If I don't get my rent 'money', you are out on the street. - Joseph T., NY

"I called you on the first to come and get it. You took your time and I have other bills to pay. You snooze you lose. Sorry."
Cocky little brat. I am returning with a pay or quit notice. Already spoke to my attorney and am ready to evict! - Randy, Levittown, NY

"I got a letter from our school that they will be mailing out July's financial aid checks a week late because of the holiday. I thought you might want to know."
Me: "why do I need to know this? You're telling me you're going to be 12 days late?"
Tenant: "well yeah."
Me: "then make sure you include your late fee & dispo fee in a money order only." Tenant: "Wait you're going to charge e late fees?! I can bring you the letter from my school & show you!"

Me: "you want to bring me a letter just to show me the reason why you are going to be 12 days late, not. Letter that tells me to waive your late fees. I can't take your rent depending on when your student aid gets mailed to you, you should plan ahead now since you're telling me so early & I'm giving you a heads up about how much your late fees are."
Tenant: "you are the stupidest person I've ever met! I have a letter showing you why I'm late! You bi+#h!"

I want to send these to my mother. She was ranting about a certain family member who's on hard times and having to rent. Well the landlords are being perceived as heartless and not working with them. Renting is an irritating business.

This is why I'm not a fan of rental property. Especially in tenant-friendly states. More often than not in my area it's a huge headache.

I try to screen and pick my tenants so I normally don't have problems.

This is the first issues I have had with anyone besides my sister who I rented to. That experience reminded me why do not rent to family is a rule.
