Very few places here don't have the chip reader. Which sucks because the chip is much slower than swiping.

Only because US retailers buy shitty readers. In Europe scanning the chip is as fast as a strip.HEB (Central Market) I go to has very fast chip readers. And in Europe at restaurants and bars they have a portable card reader they bring to your table and you are required to insert the card in the reader. One waiter told me its because the law says the customer has to always be in possession of his or her card.

I understand the software is being redesigned to complete the transaction in under 3 seconds. I don't have an ECD or when it is targeted for production. Major customer complaint has been the wait times for chip processing.
