How would closing the washington exit help traffic?

Overpass after washington is only 3 lanes, closing the exit wont fix that.
Only way to help is make 110 go down to 1 lane so 10 east could merge with 2 lanes.
Which should absolutely happen. Why does a shitty interstate spur to north BR get 2 lanes and a major cross country interstate only get 1?

Because all the government buildings are off of 110

We've covered this 1000 times.
Simply closing it does nothing. You have to use the same footprint to add an extra elevated lane. It gives traffic another 1/3 mile to merge before the lakes.

It's not going to "help" but it would "alleviate" bottlenecking.
Truth is traveling west to east I-110 and I-10 merge from a combined 6 lanes to 3 in 0.1 of a mile...nothing will fix that.

Traffic in the afternoons is already fricked at 10/110, and you'd make it infinitely worse with this idea.

Cant fix the problem because it would ruin georges

It keeps people from trying to get off at Washington comeing from 110 going across 4 lanes of traffic. They will literally stop on the Interstate to get over. Inconsiderate drivers causing much of the havoc.

A) No one will be trying to cut from 110S over to the Washington St. exit.
B) More room for that right lane of 10E to merge to the left.
It's not going to help a shite-ton, but it would still be an improvement.

They can be a PITA, but I don't think that situation causes much traffic compared to I-10 merging down to one lane.

Not at all. What could fix that cluster stretch of a road?

Isn't the latest plan to keep the Washington St exit and also put a new exit on the left side of 110 right before the split?
I thought I had read that recently

It would still bottleneck. Only difference is it would just move it further east about 100 yards. There needs to be another lane all of the way to College

I moved to the garden district in 1997. The traffic was "number one concern" on the interstate.
Same shite, decades later.

i think the plan is to actually move the washington st exit itself to the left side. they probably have traffic models that show most of the traffic exiting washington st is coming from 110 and not 10. i speculated before that moving the exit might be phase 1, then that'd open the door to extending the elevated outer lane through to (at least) the next exit, like my business partner upgrayedd alluded to. if we take this discussion any further, i'll need to write up a manhour estimate.
