I live in Alaska, it's not as cold as you think in Anchorage/Wasilla/Palmer. I lived in North Dakota for 7 years and it was FAR colder. (windchill+negative ambient)
As far as things to do: Millions of things. I'm going snowboarding on Alyeska on New Year's eve. College football games start earlier, so I'm not smashed by the time they are over.

Hey I also grew up in Alaska. They tend to root for west coast teams, but you have people up there from darn near every other state. I remember going to the bar for breakfast with my dad at 7am to watch games!
I don't think we'll be winning 10 or more games next season. We lost a lot of seniors and when you make significant changes to the offensive strategy it's difficult to have a great first season. I wasn't counting on a great season next year before the coaching change but now at least I can look forward to seeing the new changes. CHANGE! I actually had to look that word up in the dictionary
