Bryan Colangelo said Tuesday that the 76ers and Nerlens Noel have not discussed a contract extension. The deadline to extend contract for playing in the final of their rookie deal is Oct. 31. “It’s not really something that we’ve discussed, given some of the concerns that I think Nerlens has had, right now,” said Colangelo, the team’s president of basketball operation. “There’s been very little if any discussion with his agents about any extension scenarios. But, I’ll just leave it at that.” –
they dont want him back, he doesnt want to be there. they are going to trade this guy during the season, for cheap most likely
he doesnt fit there, but man he would fit here
TO PHI:
ajinca & a protected 1st (or their 2nd back?)
TO NOP:
an unsigned noel looking for a max extension
yes we'd still have asik eating up 11MM, but asik cannot be on the floor with middling shooters. noel can protect the rim, help in the lane on drives, and can absolutely catch and dunk
tell me why the pels shouldnt do this.

hey Jay
help the OP & the rest of us understand why you feel as you do.
something besides your angst about the idea.
obviously the OP is missing some key info you can share. Do.

He has lacks production on offense and I don't want to give him close to the money he's going to want considering what we are already paying Asik

Because

Would Noel be part of the Small Ball lineup, or would they go with AD at center and Hill/Jones at PF? If Noel isn't part of the Small Ball lineup or the Finishing 5 because of his 60% FT rate, then wouldn't paying him Max Money be a poor decision? Especially while you still have Asik? And that's not even taking giving up a 1st to get him into consideration.

All of this. I wouldn't even want to pay him, much less give up a first to do so. Noel is a better player, but it would be almost like the Asik trade all over again.

Still a first, son. 76ers aren't giving him away for nothing.

With our luck the protection would screw us and end up being the #8 pick in 2021 when we're trying to rebuild around our most recent top 3 draftee.

i get the asik argument...i really do.
at this point though we have to make the best of it, asik's money and the asset to get him are long gone.
the lineups he can play in are so limited
maybe they can move him next year. if he's so unwanted that the cannot, then why the hell should the pels make roster decisions around him? writ off the 11MM as dead money and move on
holiday/frazier/galloway
hield/moore
hill/pondexter/dante/gee
davis/jones/hill/noel
noel/asik/diallo
next year add either a first or high second rnd player, move asik, replace jones if necessary
i like it

I think he's potentially dumpable starting next year too. However, while you and I would give him away for free, what makes you think Demps would? He never traded Gordon even though he was on the block even before Tyreke was acquired. And Anderson was on the trade block practically every year he was here and Demps never got offered enough value to move him, even in a clearly lost season when a future 1st was on the table.
Even if you take Asik out of the equation, pairing AD with a one way big on a max deal violates a pretty firm team building principle in my mind. I've said before I'm not sure Drummond and AD would work out long term because of the money distribution. Look at how hard a time the Clippers have had filling out the roster around CP3/Blake/Jordan. And Blake is a much better creator than AD which in theory takes pressure off not having a wing creator, something the Pels wouldn't be able to afford with their 3 max deals locked up at PG/PF/C in this scenario.

50 plus wins and playoff runs are a "hard time"??

you'd take it in a heartbeat and so would i

yeah. i get it, but i think it's sort of irrelevant at this point. lot of talk about sunk cost the past few years- asik is a sunk cost.
also not sure why people think noel will get a max contract. biyombo is a better player, with a huge playoffs and no injury history, and he didn't come close to a max.
yes, you're spending $16-$20M/year on him. that's the going rate for a 23 yo 5 that puts up 10 reb, 2 stl, 2 asts, and 2 blk per 36.

to me, if you can find 2 bigs that can defend in space and rebound, that's the best way to build a team. see how terrifying OKC was in the playoffs
noel will never be confused for an offensive dynamo. neither is steven adams. at least noel can go get some lobs and be a threat that way, plus he's got some passing skill.

Yeah, but that happens with traveling back in time and trading up for Drummond, not trading this year's pick for Noel. And I'd be looking hard for a way to turn Drummond into someone like Hayward. Something you couldn't even consider with a maxed out Noel.

and 10 points, with minuscule usage rate
those are ten free points
I will not be talked out of this
Noel is the play

10 free points? What are you talking about? You think he shoots 100% from the floor.
