re: Brandon Harris under Coach O?

BH would be better under a system that plays to his skill set. LSU's offensive system is not the right system for BH, whether under Miles or Orgeron. LSU runs a pro style offense and that offense works best with a pocket passer. Harris is not a good pocket QB and not that accurate. He'd be a lot better off playing from the shotgun in a spread/read option type offense. Better fit for him. Never really understood why Miles was always after running QB's when he ran a pro style offense

Harris has all the physical tools.
why do people keep saying this?!?! There's more to being a good QB than having a rocket arm.
Harris was horribly inaccurate on short and medium-range throws.
That's a critical physical tool he doesn't have.

quote:t is 50 / 50, but I don't think he would be any better under Coach O because his problems will take time to fix. He came in to LSU as a raw QB but Miles never improved his accuracy or decision making. Worse yet, thanks to Les Miles' poor recruiting and idiocy as a head coach we were left with no QB options and Harris had to play as a true freshman and start as a true soph.
Honest question: Is the inept quarterback play of Brandon Harris due to his own ineptitude, or is it the end result of Les Miles' approach to coaching quarterbacks?
Harris needed development and Les couldn't provide it. To make things worse, Harris acted as if he didn't need any development coming into LSU and had a group of fans who thought the same thing.

I knew he was going to have troubles at LSU. I watched Harris in the QB challenge on TV. I remember him not hitting any of the targets. And I thought he sucked. Then he got upset and just started humming the ball. Ball had some zip. His coach warned him not to go to LSU. And then said it again in the season. IMO Harris should transfer. It's best for him.
Also remember the gauntlet drill in fall practice. Receivers running straight across the field at constant speed. 5 QBs throw them passes from 10 yards away as they run.
Harris was one of those QBs and was badly inaccurate on 5-6 of 20 throws. I mean WAY off.
I noted this on the Rant and some posters actually claimed the QBs were SUPPOSED to throw inaccurate passes to make the receivers' job more difficult. Even though the other QBs' throws were accurate, some posters just kept making excuses for Harris.
I noted at the time that this seemed troubling, after 2 full years in the program, Harris was still inaccurate on short balls.

He's not a d-1 qb. D-1 arm but that's about it. It's just the way it is. He's not accurate enough throwing. He's not to great at read option or just improvising and running when it's there. The sec is just to fast for him. That's what I've seen and until he proves me wrong it's just the way I feel about it

Competent coaches scheme to their players strengths, which Miles/Cameron did not. Look at how Saban/Kiffin call plays for Hurts who is a true freshman. Hurts is not an accurate QB but has a strong arm and runs the zone read efficiently. Harris was recruited by OSU,FSU,Bama,LSU,etc.....there is no way that all of these programs misjudged what his skills are. Plain and simple it's Miles and Cameron who failed this kid....hopefully the next coaching regime can help him.

Which scheme would be good for Johnson & Harris? Sandlot, where they draw the plays in the dirt? Uh, you go deep, you go deep, and the rest of y'all just block? Does that sound like the correct scheme?

Yes, go look on the recruiting board and search Jeremy Johnson.
CORRECTION: JJ was in the same class as Jennings, not Harris.

Have you noticed that DTQBs, running HUNH/Spread/RPO have been doing really well in the AP Top 25?
Greg Ward, Joshua Dobbs, Chad Kelly, Brad Kaaya,
Even those who started as True Freshmen:
Deshaun Watson, Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson, Dondre Francois, J. T. Barrett
What is LSU's offensive identity? It is slower than ever, 124th in Pace of Play. Only 42 plays in the last game, 50 vs WISC, 56 vs MSST. Saban's practices are 100% dedicated to just running plays as fast as possible, over and over, no tackling.
Pro-Style is a 80% Shotgun, 3+WR spread, not 2TES/FB/RB/1WR I-formation from the 1990's. Although Orgeron is trying to open it up more, it takes real discipline and relentless practice to run Tempo/Spread/RPO.

What I've noticed about Etling, is that he has a good touch on most of his passes. I see a quarterback that goes through his progressions (most of the time) and lays the ball in there on his short and medium passes so the receiver can catch it on the run. He needs to work on his deep throws, but I like what he brings to this offense which is better accuracy and the ability to throw his receivers open.
Harris got by in the first part of last season by throwing the ball up and relying on his receivers to go up and get it. He was lucky they did, or he would've had more interceptions.

BH was 7-0 last yr never trailing in a game and set scoring records as a FR running a spread option O w/63 pts on 9 drives - 100% Scoring Efficiency. At WISC he was back under center, like AUB 2014, behind an injured O-Line, was Sacked 3 times and hurried 8 times and made the Scapegoat as was Dupre who was mauled by double and triple coverage out of 2 WR sets.
At 7-0, Harris had averaged 68% vs SCAR, MSST, AU, FLA, leading up to the ALA game. He faced a lot of 3rd and longs and QBHs but 0 INTs. ALA/ARK: 18 of his 25 pass attempts were 3rd and 8+ yds and he was pressured/hit on 50% of his dropbacks and sacked 10 times. ALA: He was injured on the 1st 40 yd TD to Dural.
quote:
Most accurate QB under pressure: Brandon Harris, LSU
He didn’t have the highest completion percentage on throws under pressure, but Harris suffered from his receivers dropping seven passes. Under pressure, NO returning SEC quarterback had a higher adjusted completion percentage than Harris’ 67.2 percent. Runner-up: Chad Kelly, Ole Miss

Brandon Harris can't throw a 10 yard crossing route without making the receiver stop or adjust his route to catch Harris' poorly thrown ball. Harris can't throw regardless of the system he was in. Some of you refuse to see the truth.
