Unless this thing is going to be like Sea World, it will be a "one n done" type of thing for locals and there aren't enough tourists visiting Shreve-a-dise to sustain it.

I have small children, if it's still in business in 4 years I'll probably have to go to this redneck fish tank 6 times a year. Did you know there's an alligator park off Greenwood Road? Me either, until my friends with kids told me.

Man, I pulling for Shreveport. I really am but i'm looking at this quote:

quote:

Now with the vote, the city will bring the Barnwell building up to code using a $1.5 million bond issued by voters in 2011. Once that is complete, Planet Aqua Group will invest $2.8 million to improve the Barnwell and move its company headquarters to Shreveport.

and thinking to myself that $3M sounds like a lot of money but is more than likely a drop in the proverbial bucket.

For comparison, the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta cost nearly $300M to build. Obviously it's apples to oranges but it does provide a reference for how much it costs to run a truly successful aquarium that draws large numbers.

The Shreveport aquarium won't be nice enough to increase tourism numbers to the city but like y'all have stated will be good for local families.
