LSU now doesn't have to lose a home game this year, but does have to buy-out USA and will lose a home game next year.
If LSU misses the SECCG and neither team has an early bowl game, why couldn't a makeup game be played December 10? That way, LSU would get an extra home game this year to make up for the one they lose in 2017, and wouldn't have to pay the buyout.

South Alabama wouldn't want to. They're getting bought out anyway, and they're gonna try to play Presbyterian on Nov. 19th.

I don't think anyone would agree to it. USA offered to move our homecoming game to allow UF/LSU to have November 19 and play LSU on October 29 instead. Georgia State and Georgia Southern in the Sun Belt also agreed to it as the change would effect them. That was not what happened, so I don't see why any other date would be agreed upon.

There might be 20k in attendance if the game was played then. LSU would still have to fully staff everything, then also pay South Alabama $1.5 million. SA is already getting paid, and will probably play Presbyterian, so they have no reason to come get beat down by LSU after their season is over, and LSU has no reason to risk injury to its players going into their bowl game.
