Future QB Possibility?

My friend and I are discussing who should take the reins at QB for the Saints when Drew hangs it up (hopefully not soon). This stemmed from a mock draft he saw where the Saints draft Deshaun Watson. I, personally, think that while it wouldn't be a bad move the Saints still have too many other needs.
However, for argument's sake if Brees and the Saints do decide part ways after this season which I don't know either way I was thinking the QB they should go after is actually already current in the league and that is Jimmy Garoppolo. How would the board feel either? I'm just curious.
For the record, I hope we keep Drew a couple more years and draft wisely to develop a QB moving forward. Watson would be OK but I don't know if he's that good or a product of the Clemson offense a la Tahj Boyd.

Well we know it won't be Grayson. Glad Payton decided to use a 3rd round pick on him.

Just depends on what we gave up for him.
I say keep trying to find gems in later rounds.
This draft the first 3 rounds have to be combo of
Best available Pass rusher, Offensive Line, Safety.
Or Safety later and find us an athletic, rangy, smart MLB. You know like that Kwon Alexander Guy, or Deion Jones. If we don't land Kendall Beckwith, ill be pissed

My biggest problem with him is that he has no deep game. He can't drive the ball deep at all, and he never has at any level. He is pretty damn sharp in the short-intermediate game. But to me that just means you always have to have players that are very well suited for that area of the field (which fortunately NE is). It's hard to stretch the defense and give your offense some room when your QB cannot get the ball to the receivers deep.

Fans have no faith in management to draft or evaluate talent in any round. It's pure luck for them to hit in any round.

The guys that get paid millions of dollars just to pick a good QB can't get it right so all I hope we do is tank the season after Drews last, work your cap as best you can, get as many pics as possible, go 1-15 get the first over all pic and hold tight to your lucky rabbits foot etc.

He's got at least 1 more here after his extension

QB's and assistant coaches that leave the Pats are the last people I would take a chance on. Belichick is the reason they succeed.

It's tough to evaluate QB talent nowadays. A good example is Jake Locker. Dude was supposed to set the world on fire and he's not even in the league anymore. Also, I wouldn't take a NE QB. They're a product of Belichick and nothing more, a la Matt Cassel.

Like someone pointed out above the rewrite of the contract by Loomis was a huge mistake.
Brees is under contract through 2017 with a no trade clause. Then Loomis has spread the bonus out for 16-19. So even if Brees is not the QB in 2018 the Saints will have a huge chuck of change on the books.
Now this might not matter if they have a rookie like a Watson that they are paying 5-6 million to.

Would not be completely upset, I agree there are more needs but I think he will be a good pro.

I thought we were trading for Romo since SP knows him and such...
Seriously, the team should not be planning to replace Brees in the upcoming draft, at the very least they should be looking at young mid to late round QBs that can come in and replace McCown; he's expecting to count $1.75M against our cap next year to be the back-up.

I'd still rather have a rookie at a position of need rather than trying to save $1m in cap space at best.

I wouldn't mind giving McDaniel another shot if something happens to Payton.

Every player this year that wasn't hurt is contributing and was slated to contribute even before the injury bug hit us like a ton of bricks.
And Michael Thomas was on the Saints radar long before the draft. Talking about luck.
Yeah, before Jeff Ireland showed up, we were...well, I was going to say sketch, but whatever. Insert your own superlative.
The last two drafts have been successes.
Yes. I am including 2015.

Guys having no success outside of NE does not just extend to players. Their coaches have been big failures as well.
I normally would not hold a guy accountable for missing on 1 player in the draft...But I dont know what he saw in Tebow to take him in round 1. I dont believe for 1 second any other team was close to taking Tim that high

My worry with Garoppolo is you're going to have to pay FA money on someone with hardly any experience.
If you go through the draft and hit you get 3-4 years with hardly any cap hit.
Example I'm thinking of is the Seahawks. With all those late round and rookie FA hits they were able to build a stud team. Fast forward 3/4 years and free agency/resigning is really starting to catch up.

Watson would sell tickets and make the team look more like eye candy... kind of like Prescott with Dallas. Can he hold the seat down for the long haul is the real question. Jimmy G deserves a chance. He's less eye candy but if he come in and start winning, all will be well.
