What is this movie supposed to be exactly, relative to the books? It's clearly not just the gunslinger turned into a movie, as it bridges material from different books but seems to be dropping characters, plot points, etc. Is this the entire story summarized in one movie? Naming the movie just "The Dark Tower" seems to hint at that

It seems like it is streamlining and condensing 5-7 and parts of 1 to create a standalone movie and possibly set the stage for a larger more in-depth turn over several movies if it is successful. How they manage to do that I'm not sure but I'm interested in seeing it.

It's supposed to combine different elements/plotlines from different books but it also seemingly serves as a continuation from the last book.
SPOILERS!!!!!!!
For instance, Roland supposedly has the Horn of Eld in the film which, of course, he didn't receive until the end of the last book.

Spoilers:
Is after Roland finds the horn and restarts his journey. It's basically an alternative universe.
Very frustrating and disappointing to people like me who love the book, but it should be entertaining.
It's going to be different from the books.

It's a sequel to the books. He has the Horn this rotation. What happens in the movie happened after the last novel.
