LSU Russian went. If you can't catch him here try catching him on another board and lead him back here.

I dont know if it is just me, but all the pictures are just white space, even when I copy and paste into URL. Would really like to see them.

The one thing I know is that it's a very expensive trip. As with a photo safari or a Himalayan trek I would not be looking for the cheapest options. I'd want comfort and I'd want safety.

A quick google says your cheapest option is to go the Ushuaia and have some patience to find a last minute deal. Seems like they go for well below half-price. Do your research. If you dont have the patience for this you're looking upwards of 10-15k.
If it were me, only because I'm young and dont have that kind of money to throw around, I'd head to Beunos Aires, make my way down to Ushuaia, shop around for deals while also exploring Patagonia. It wouldnt bother me if I couldn't find a deal I could bite on only because Patagonia is very high up on my top list.
Check out the lonely planet forums, they should have some great info on it. The only person I know that has been is a Geology PHD candidate at rice. She's been several times and has raved about it. I'd love to go, but just dont see it happening in the near future, unfortunately. Best of luck!

We flew into Buenos Aries for one night, then flew Argentina Airlines to Ushuaia, Argentina, the southernmost city in the world, for one night.
The next morning we took an ice breaker cruise ship, the Polar Star, to Antarctica for a 7 day trip.
That ship hit an uncharted underwater rock formation on its next trip and sank in shallow water near the Antarctic Peninsula, so it's not in business any longer.
I loved the experience and saw some spectacular scenery.
If you have some specific questions, I'll try to answer them.
ETA: Here are a few photos I took on our vacation to Antarctica...
That's our ship seen through a hole in an overturned iceberg.
Full moon rising over the Antarctic Peninsula taken just before midnight. We were there
in late January, which is their warmest month and has 23 hours a day of sun light.
