* NCAA All-American at Michigan
* 5x NBA All-Star as player
* 2x NBA Champion as head coach (only 5 coaches in NBA history have more than 2 titles)
* 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist as coach of USMNT

If you repeat champion as a head coach in any sport, you should get in.

I'm not a regular season guy, but didn't the Bulls go 0-2 against this team in one of those title years?

Probably. And I think the Rockets went 8-2 against the Bulls in the 3 seasons before Jordan retired the first time.

The Rockets were one of the teams the Bulls really struggled with for some reason.

I think that reinforces the nay-sayers' point: No Jordan.

It's a valid argument, but Hakeem was at the peak of his game by then. It would have been interesting to see which team could play to their strengths better. Easy to say it would have been the Bulls, but 4 or 5 in a row (continuing of the first 3-peat) is a tough thing to see.

Many people don't realize that Jordan came back during the 1995 season. The Bulls reached the playoffs and Jordan averaged 31.5 ppg in those playoffs. But they lost to the Magic with Shaq and Penny (the team that the Rockets swept in the NBA Finals).

I still remember how he made Shaq and the Admiral (in an MVP year) just look silly.

What effect, if any, does "quit midseason from a coaching gig" have on his candidacy or legacy in the game?

Should have never taken the job. His body had some serious miles on it even when he was still in Houston.

Broke his face, heavy drinker and smoker, cancer, Kobe Bryant (I know. Redundant.)

That's a lot to overcome.

Hakeem Was the best player in the NBA when Jordan left

It wasnt even close

Hakeem deserves more credit. It is tarnishing his name by saying it was a couple of asterisk title years. Jordan was a better player but Hakeem those 2 years wasn't too far behind.

Hakeem had a great series, but so did Shaq. Shaq had more turnovers, and he wasn't yet able to deal with Hakeem, but Shaq was definitely the second best player in that series. I wouldn't say he was made to look silly. If someone doesn't kidnap Nick Anderson and replace him with whomever that was in the season, we probably remember that series much differently.

You're probably right. I am just remembering the SA series, after which he had reached godlike status. The fact that the Magic Finals were a sweep and Hakeem scored the last points of the series on a 3 just leaves a big impression.

You are correct about the sweep and its effect. The people who looked silly were Nick Anderson and Dennis Scott.

No Jordan?!?

He came back in 94-95, was immediately his old self, played around 20 games and averaged close to 30/game. If I remember, this was when the Bulls were between Grant & Rodman. No * required.
