His large raise at UH is solely dependent on entering the big 12. A standard raise without a conference change would be peanuts to what LSU could offer, especially for assistants.

If they make the big 12 then it gets much more interesting.

Right, but if he theoretically decides he loves UH and wants to stay there, he's still getting a new contract from them and a big raise with it. There's no way he's just going to keep his current contract with how this will play out. Assuming UH doesn't melt down on the field the worst case scenario for him is he stays at UH and gets an extension and a raise (and I'm sure they keep that Big 12 clause in there too)

The question is if UH can play with the big boys as far as money goes for him and his staff

It's still peanuts regardless. Don't sit there and think LSU can't shell out just as much money as anyone else, and given the fervor TAF and the LSU admin has for the coaching change it says to me that money is likely no object in this matter.
