Honestly, I thought Etling handled the final set of downs pretty well. LSU picked up a 1st down at the 13 with 54 seconds left and the clock ready to restart. At this point, you have to assume LSU has four plays left, limited by downs, not time.

:54 1st down whistle/clock stopped
This is where most people complained. Clock ran off 20 seconds before the next play. We were lined up around the 45 second mark, but Etling directed Dupre to the other side of the formation. Honestly, though we ran time, it didn't bother me. Etling seemed like he was in control and there was no panic. Besides, he's showing he knows he's limited more by downs than time.

:33 1st down snap
Pass incomplete. Clock stops

:28 2nd down snap
Etling sacked, and immediately calls timeout. The play took four seconds. Now it's 3rd and 17, and LSU should have more than enough time to run two plays, so long as the next play goes to the sideline.

:24 3rd down snap
Dupre catches the ball with :22 on the clock, decides to fight for an extra yard or two instead of going out of bounds. THIS WAS THE KEY MISTAKE. LSU had no timeouts thanks to the sack, but Dupre caught the ball and had the lane to go out of bounds. Instead, he turned upfield for a meaningless yard or two. He was down at :18

:06 4th down snap
Getting the play off in 12 seconds was pretty good by Etling again, who did a good job with the clock and seemed cool under pressure. The receiver ran his route short of the end zone and was down with 1 second left. And we know the rest.

The only player error was by Dupre. Etling, I thought, did well in the final minute and played with no panic. If he had played like that the rest of the game, we wouldn't have needed a late frantic drive.
