Just went through the same thing on my rancher.
I ended up just ordering one from Amazon instead of rebuilding.
I also recommend pulling the petcock from the tank. Mine had a plastic filter on the pick up that had completely deteriorated. I had to change as i couldn't turn the fuel off either.
