Re: Hard Braking and Snapshot device:
Had the device on my truck for 6 months.
It is a bit trigger happy with the hard braking alert.
If travelling down Perkins Road in Baton Rouge (or a road with a similar speed limit with traffic lights sprinkled along it) at 45 mph, and a traffic light turns yellow just prior to arriving at the light, you're screwed unless you accelerate through the yellow light.
This ironically isn't considered a "safe" driving habit, though there is a Snapshot penalty for stopping for the light in that type of situation.
Without fail, the hard braking alert sounded under those circumstances.
Once while approaching at a low speed a RR track that didn't have a warning signal, I just barely tapped the brakes to make sure no train was approaching, and the hard braking alarm went off.
Again, my tapping the brakes to pause at the RR crossing is a safe driving habit, however with the Snapshot device in that situation, a penalty for "hard braking" was incurred.
I don't think the folks at Progressive are in any rush to lower your rates to a great degree, and maybe programmed the device difficult to "beat." That's just my opinion though.
I did save 15% on my insurance rate, which was better than nothing.
I asked and the average savings according to the representative was between 12 and 18 %. To get the max savings of 30 % you almost wouldn't be able to drive at all with the Snapshot device installed.

Next time, just don't hard brake, ever. You'll show those bastards!
