If you feel like you would be happier with a Nikon then by all means go for it. Any of the scopes talked about here will do everything you need them to do. If you get the Nikon you will be just as happy.
I have never heard of a Vortex breaking because of recoil though, that's interesting. I have one on a 300 WM and a buddy has one a 300 WBY Mag and both hold zero.

These were vortex diamondback hp 4-16x42. Both held zero fine, what was breaking was something in the rear eyepiece focus adjustment. It would break and then fish eye. Take the scope off and you could hear the lens rattling around inside.

Didnt mean to hijack your thread and turn it into a vortex bashing thread, just sharing my experience
