Some years back when I had to work alternate weeks in Houston, I stayed at the Homewood Suites out by the airport. Not near much but the customer service was among the best I've experienced.

I used to hold computer training classes at that hotel every quarter. The management and staff are awesome. However, it runs about $150/night that could get pricey.
And you are right there is nothing close to that hotel.
