The Seahawks are planning “a pregame demonstration of unity” before Sunday’s season opener, Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin wrote on his Twitter account Thursday.
Both Baldwin and Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner spoke on the record Wednesday about the national anthem protest in which 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane have participated. Baldwin said he had considered joining them but hadn’t decided, and Wagner said the Seahawks had discussed some sort of team-wide act.
Without going into detail — and amid rumors that the entire Seahawks team might sit during the national anthem — Baldwin tweeted that the Seahawks have decided how they’ll handle things.
“To express a desire to bring people together, our team will honor the country and flag in a pregame demonstration of unity,” was his full tweet.
We’ll find out Sunday just what that demonstration will entail.
Baldwin had spoken Wednesday about understanding that Sunday is Sept. 11 and “a significant day” in American history. He stressed that he’s been “thinking things through” in regards to how he might handle the national anthem, but he’s spoken out on social media in support of Kaepernick and Lane.
