No. Actually the Glen Mason comparison is apt.

Over a similar career arc, Mason has like one less winning season, one less bowl win, and two fewer 10-win seasons. And Mason had to rebuild two crap programs, and got a 10-win season out of both of them. Ferentz took over a stable program from a longtime predecessor and more or less has had the same success as him. There is almost literally no difference between Iowa now and Iowa 30 years ago. You could actually argue that they were better 30 years ago.

My point is this: the only difference between Ferentz and a coach who we'd all agree is largely forgettable is he'll pull a major bowl game out his arse about every 6 years that one year the entire rest of his conference is down. And he's coach for life but the other guy is a footnote.
