Only 11 MLB teams are drawing more per game than last season

If anyone has a better understanding of the economics, please enlighten me, but it seems that we are beyond the equilibrium price of game attendance.
It seems to me that bringing in more people at a lower price would bring in more money overall, after you consider the additional tickets and concessions sold.

Is overall attendance up? A few teams are low that are in wild card contention

If roughly 2/3 of the teams are drawing less per game, I doubt it.

Depends on how less, I know at midseason we had a thread similar and it was about even. Mainly cause some teams were only 400-1000 below and some were 1000-10,000 above.
Not sure the numbers now since I have not checked. Back then the biggest lowers were Dodgers, Reds, Yankees and gainers were Cubs. Blue Jays, and Astros.

Attendance overall is down an average of 368 people per game and is down 733,806 from same point last year

Meant to put the link in the OP

Last year was the 7th best attended season in MLB history. This season they are down 375 per game in attendance compared to last year. That could change as teams enter their post season runs.

Average per game or total attendance? Big difference.

Average per game as I posted above the total attendance is down over 730,000 this year compared to last year

Average per game. If it was 375 in total attendance out of 73 million, would be .000005%.

You have to multiply that 375 by total games.

730,000 overall isn't big over the big picture, especially since that can pick up quickly and the postseason can make up some. Even if it stays MLB is fine overall. The biggest issue is the big market teams not bringing in the fans.

Again, I think that baseball is going strong, I'm more curious about the economics than anything.

The only reason I'm aware of this is I read an article about on my flight to Green Bay. The Reds are down 7100 fans per game and the Blue Jays up 9200 per game, the leaders in each direction. They expect the attendance to surpass the 2014 season and rank in the top 10 all time.

MLB.tv subscribers have increased from 3million to 5million in the past two years FYI. As streaming and broadcasting experiences improve, attendance will plateau in all the sports leagues.

But MLB.TV does not currently offer in-market games, so they shouldn't matter. I blame the Indians' fans. They're in first place and still draw poorly.

Can't find the 2016 number but prices were up 3.3% in 2015 to 28.94 on average
I think that is an average of team prices rather than a weighted average.
Anyway that would make the ticket revenue close to flat but with some wide disparity among teams if 2016 was similar.
Don't know how long they can keep that rate of increase up.

Sounds like regression to the mean.
