if you think the same engineers that build the sante fe build this car you are mistaken.

No one has said the 7 series is reliable. Why do you keep changing models to compare the Genesis to though?
Just confusion because of the name change. The first part was a Hyundai Genesis itself, the last one under that name. I used a 3 series to get the MSRP in range, but you're right, it is a 5 series class.
The second comment was about Genesis the brand, under which 6 or so models will now be created. My point with the 7 series is that BMW the brand can still put out shitty cars.

Shitty from a reliability standpoint. But otherwise it compares favorably to the Hyundai from all the articles I read.

Isn't reliability how these luxury brands made their name though?
I'm not suggesting they're the most reliable brands on the road, but making cars that fall apart won't get you anywhere. That's the historical knock on Hyundai, but outside of the anecdote earlier in the thread, that hasn't been the case with the Genesis model since inception basically.

I couldnt convince myself to buy a 65k hyundai even if it doesnt have the name on it anymore.
I understand the sentiment but, it's really no different than how I'm sure many reacted to Lexus and Acura.
I mean, people who grew up calling Toyotas and Hondas "rice burners" probably thought "luxury Honda? WTF?"

No.

I'm not saying people buy then because of their reliability at this point, but they have clout because of years and years of quality high end vehicles. I'm not suggesting they're a Toyota or something, but they've been good enough for long enough.
What is your issue with Hyundai's reputation?

High end doesn't equal reliable.
I don't necessarily have an issue with Hyundai's reputation. My point is that it is not on the level of the vehicles people like yourself are comparing them to. That's not really debatable at this moment. They are trying to change that, but it will take time to see if it pans out. The whole Genesis lineup could end up being a huge flop, but we won't know for some time.

Well this is a long thread and no I didn't read it all, but I'd like to chime in as a former 2010 Genesis owner and current 2015 5 series owner. I loved the Genesis. I bought it in 2010 over other luxury cars [which I did test drive] because it was about $20000 cheaper and had the 10 year warranty. My son drives it now and loves it too. I miss driving it. Super peppy. It's a great car. Never had any problems with it.
I regret that when it was time for my new car last year, I succumbed to the same snob appeal which seems to have affected so many in this thread. I test drove the new body style Genesis which I think is super sexy but instead got a 5 series. It was about a $12000 difference equally loaded. I really regret that decision. I'm in a car that looks boring, has incredibly uncomfortable seats, and cost me more money.
As soon as the new Genesis brand comes out with a SUV, that's what I will switch over to.
Anyone on here who continues to say that they "wouldn't drive a Hyundai" hasn't driven one or been in one or done research on them and compared apples to apples. The Equus compares to the 7 series but costs the same as a 5 series. The Genesis compares to the 5 series but costs the same as a 3 series.

Quality or perception? Because perception means jack shite and is easily changed.

It is entirely debatable.
You're free to argue it, but Hyundai just isn't there yet. If they were, they wouldn't be resorting to a rebranding of an entire line.

This thread is proof that the perception isn't all that easily changed.

Ruh Roe Rorge !!!, guess who actually drives a Kia K900, reached out to them and is doing commercials for them. BTW, Kia is part of the Hyundai Motor Group.

“There’s a one-thousand-percent chance that there’s a hundred-percent chance that LeBron drives a Kia,” Jefferson joked.

IRVINE, Calif., December 3, 2015 – Last year, when LeBron James Tweeted “Rolling around in my K900. Love this car!!” and later stated he was a K900 driver before becoming Kia Motors’ luxury ambassador, naysayers took to social media to question the validity of his claims. Now, with sales of Kia’s rear-drive luxury sedan up considerably over 2014 levels, the 11-time NBA All-Star and avid car collector is tackling that skepticism head-on to prove the K900 is in fact “Fit For A King” in a new ad campaign from Kia Motors America (KMA).

James assumed the role of K900 Luxury Ambassador in October of 2014 after reaching out to Kia – the Official Automotive Partner of the NBA – for a firsthand experience with the flagship sedan aimed at confident, independent thinkers - - Explains the multiple page thread of naysayers. “I was a Kia K900 driver and fan before we decided to become partners," said James. “For me, a partnership has to be authentic and real to who I am, and that’s what makes this one so special."

Signed everyone originally skeptical about Lexus, Acura, and Infinity.
You rebrand to move past old perceptions.

What?
A thread with a few biased people who are easily influenced by Madison Avenue isn't proof of shite. All it proves is a few people (such as yourself) are slaves to labels and are afraid to dig any deeper.
I remember when Datsun and Toyota were crap cars. Acura and Infinity sure changed people's perception.

Now that is a ridiculous thing to say, unless you don't know that Honda has Acura, Toyota has Lexus, Nissan has Infinity, Ford has Lincoln, etc, etc, etc as their luxury car brands.

Previous 5 series owner.....NEVER again

What 5 series did you get? Seems like it would handle better than your previous car, but I've also heard the F10s are quite numb.
